FibroFill is such a product that is composed of skin fibroblasts and a special form of hyaluronic acid. Fibroblasts are the main components of the dermis. They are essential for the regeneration of the dermal skin layer, as they produce collagen and other extracellular matrix proteins. Their combined use with hyaluronic acid activates their growth, promoting this way the process of skin regeneration. On the other hand, hyaluronic acid maintains the fibroblasts at the site of the injection and therefore focuses the therapy at the site of the injury.
In order to prepare FibroFill, 2-3 small punch biopsies (3mm each) are collected from behind the ear of the patient. These punch biopsies are subsequently placed into a special tube containing a buffered medium and the samples are transferred to our laboratories. Upon arrival to our premises, skin samples are processed for the isolation of fibroblasts. The cells are tested for their quality and possible infections and then expanded in special incubators and culture media. After approximately 4 weeks, when the appropriate number of cells is reached, the cells are combined with hyaluronic acid and sent to the doctor’s facility for application at the site of injury.
FibroFill can be used either for the treatment of scars, or for the correction of wrinkles. After the application of the product, there is an immediate effect and a long-term effect. The immediate effect is the filling of the wound scar, which is mainly due to the hyaluronic acid. The long-term effect is due to the skin regeneration, which is due to the fibroblasts that are injected at the site of the scar or the wrinkle.
